If there’s one thing that doesn’t need to be complicated in the kitchen, it’s air frying. And Air Fryer Guy, Jake is here to prove it.

We have teamed up with the viral social media sensation and air frying expert to launch How I AirFry, a series revealing his favourite air fried dishes and his secrets to help you become an expert in the kitchen too.

Whether it’s the crispiest veggie chips, perfectly flakey pastry, or ultimate ham and cheese sliders, Jake says the air fryer should be a staple in everyone’s kitchen. “It’s one of those things that once you try it, you just need it.” Westinghouse’s ovens with built-in AirFry are here to make life easier, and healthier, without the need for a benchtop appliance. Now you can have perfectly cooked meals without the added oil or time-consuming recipe steps.

To help you become an air frying aficionado, Air Fryer Guy has revealed his secrets to mastering the art.

1. Choose versatile ingredients:

As for the easiest and most versatile ingredient to cook in an air fryer, puff pastry is my pick. You can wrap basically anything in a piece of puff pastry, and it will come out golden and crispy. My Chicken Pesto Lasagne Pockets are a prime example, based lightly off a traditional lasagne, wrapped in some puff pastry and air fried in the Westinghouse Oven with Built-In AirFry – absolutely delicious. For a sweeter treat, my Caramel Deconstructed S’mores are the ultimate indulgence. A Caramello Koala and biscuit crumb wrapped in puff pastry, air fried with marshmallows on top – just imagine the coziness.

2. Apply the ‘trial and error’ rule:

It can be so easy to get overwhelmed with a new appliance, but the best thing to do is use trial and error. I think a common mistake is overthinking the cooking time, but you will get the hang of it very quickly as air fryers are super easy to use. Just don’t try to air fry anything that is in batter! It just won’t work.

3. Nail the crowd pleasers:

If there’s one crowd-pleaser I keep going back to again and again, it’s One Tray Ham & Cheese Sliders. My slight twist is adding a garlic and herb butter on top of the rolls during the air frying process, creating a crisp top and also slotting in some hidden veggies like tomato and baby spinach. This recipe is basically garlic bread on steroids – watching the cheese stretch out when pulling them apart is something else!

4. Get experimental:

Air frying is the perfect excuse to whip up some wild food hybrids. Lasagne wrapped in pastry. Carrots crumbed using a spicy mayonnaise sauce. The crazier the better! My Spicy Panko Crumbed Carrots are great for when you want to use up come forgotten carrots because they taste less like carrots and more like chicken wings. Crunchy, spicy and delicious!

5. Preheat your AirFry oven:

Another tip is to preheat your air fryer for 2-3 minutes. While this seems pretty basic and isn’t absolutely essential, it’ll take your air frying to the next level, especially when cooking crumbed food. A 2-3 minute preheat means the base of the air fryer basket will start cooking the  bottom of the food straight away which gives you a crispier edge all round.

6. Invest in a game-changing air fryer:

When you’re using an air fryer as frequently as I am, you want it to be the best of the best. I love Westinghouse’s oven with built-in AirFry as it’s much bigger than a regular bench top air fryer, so you can cook bigger portions for the family, while not taking up precious benchtop space. I can easily put the AirFry tray straight from the oven into the dishwasher (a big time saver) and best of all, I can see the food whilst it’s cooking, no need physically open the tray to check on your food.

AirFry Ovens

When you want the latest in cooking technology, but it comes in a benchtop appliance that you don't have the room for, the solution to a benchtop airfryer could be an airfry oven. Now you can cook for the whole family, achieving results similar to deep-frying while minimising the amount of oil used.
